The English Premier League already has a big buzz around it thanks to the remarkable business that is being done by the teams such as Liverpool and Wolverhampton. While some are focusing on transfer business, teams like Chelsea and Arsenal have forced a managerial change that itself lights up the scenario. On the other hand, things at the Old Trafford are unusually calm.
The Red Devils have brought in Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant in this transfer window and truth be told, a lot more was expected from the 20 times English Champions. The Reds have brought in a 19 year old full back who is currently injured till September, a midfielder who couldn’t feature in a single World Cup game due to injury and a veteran keeper who will hardly get a single game ahead of De Gea and Romero throughout the campaign. All this business hardly looks good enough to bridge a 19 point gap that existed last season.
When asked about the lack of transfer activities, Mourinho said,
“One thing is what I would like, another thing is what is going to happen.”
When asked about how many players he’ll like to add to his United squad, the Portuguese manager said,
“I would get two more players.”
Mourinho also suggested that he is content with the options at the Right Back position despite pointing out an injury for Antonio Valencia.
“I don’t think he(Valencia) will be available to play any one of the three matches of the International Champions Cup,”
“It’s not a moment to take any risks. Antonio is a player that’s not a young boy anymore. We have to take care of him and to try to have him ready for the start of the season.”
The former Chelsea manager was full of praises for his recently signed Portuguese full back, Diogo Dalot
“We bought a fantastic player. Young, 19 years old, but I think probably the best right-back at that age in European football.”
“But he had a surgery last May and is recovering for that, so one more reason to take care of Antonio.”
The 2 players Mourinho is most likely to bring in before the end of the transfer window include a Center Back and a Winger. United are currently in talks with Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng for the defence. While for the wings “The Special One” is keenly keeping an eye on Willian and Perisic.
