England might have been knocked out of the World Cup but Harry Maguire’s heroics are still fresh in the minds of the followers and the football pundits. Not many could have predicted the inclusion of the Leicester City defender in the world cup team an year ago. Now the English defender has caught the eye of a giant club and might be moving away from the Foxes.
Manchester United are reportedly interested in landing Maguire to Old Trafford especially as the club looks to push Chris Smalling out before the start of the next season. Jose Mourinho could hardly find a consistent center back pairing last season despite bringing in Victor Lindelof. Harry Maguire might just be the man to end the defensive miseries of Mourinho’s side with his excellent aerial abilities.
Maguire’s former clubmate, Riyad Mahrez believes the young English defender is destined to join a big club sooner than later. Mahrez also believes that Maguire has it all to stand up and deliver at the biggest stages.
Here is what Riyad Mahrez had to say,
“He’s a very good player,”
“Since the day he came to Leicester, the season he had last season as well, it doesn’t surprise me to see him succeeding at the World Cup. Of course he deserves to play higher. But Leicester is a good club as well, so it’s him, he’ll have to decide and see.”
Maguire joined Leicester City at the beginning of the last season from Hull City for a move that was priced around £12m. The 25 year old had an excellent debut season as he turned up for each and every Premier League game and even won the club’s Player of the Year award.
With such impressive individual performances under Maguire’s belt, Manchester United look eager to sign him for a fee that might be as high as £50m. However, the transfer window closes on 9th August according to the new rules and it’s fair to say that United are in a race against time with Leicester City being keen to keep hold of their star.
