That’s the most shocking news of the day for a large section of football fans as defending champions Germany have dropped Manchester City winger Leroy Sane from their World Cup 2018 squad. The 22-year-old who had impressive season at his club was deemed to be the starter for the Germans.
Sane who was a regular part of the National team up till Germany’s 2-1 defeat to Austria on Saturday hasn’t been considered ahead of Julian Brandt by Germany coach Joachim Löw. As explained by Löw himself, the decision to pick one out of the two was very tough and it ended in the favour of Brandt.
“That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favour of Brandt. Draxler, Reus and Müller are set. Leroy has a huge talent.
“He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet.
“It was a very close decision. If it was a 100 metre race, it would have been a photo finish”, were the words of German who was justifying his selection.
The decision which looks very debatable might possibly haunt the manager if Germany won’t perform as per expectations. As for Leroy Sane he did all in his capacity to earn a place for the National team. Sane had hand in 14 goals and 17 assists for Manchester City which saw him earn PFA Young Player of the Year award.
What do you think about this decision? Justified or not?
