And it’s coming. The FIFA World Cup 2018 is now very close and the hype around is unreal but undoubtedly justified as well. In this article we’ll talk about the Group E. The mighty South American, Brazil will most likely be the center of attraction in the group. The Group also includes 3 countries which are more or less at the same level, namely Costa Rica, Switzerland and Serbia. It’s needless to say the 2nd qualification spot in the group will be fiercely contested for. Meanwhile Brazil will hope to top the group and go all the way through to conquer the world.

The World Cup giants will be looking to add yet another world title to their massive collection. Brazil are favourites to top the group and are likely to go unbeaten to the next round. However having three equally statured opponents in the group means that the Brazilians will have to fight for each and every single point. Brazil will be expected to make it to the last four at least this time up, however, the memories of the last “cruel” semi final at their home against Germany will still be horrifying them. Having said that, the most glorified nation of the world still stands as one of the biggest contender going into the tournament.
Switzerland finish right behind Portugal in the qualifying stages only on goal difference. Thereafter the Swiss defeated Northern Ireland in the playoffs to make it through to Russia. The Swiss have never made it past the quarter finals of a World Cup and haven’t even reached that stage since 1954 when they hosted the tournament. However, they did have a good campaign in the Euro 2016 where they were unlucky to be beaten by Poland in the round of 16 in a penalty shootout.
Switzerland would be hoping to put up a good fight and make it through to the next round. Losing to either Costa Rica or Serbia will more or less end their hopes completely.
The Serbians have a fairly defensive side, with the likes of Aleksnder Kolarov, Brainslav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic holding up their defence. Serbia have not made it passed the group stage since 1998, however they did finish 4th back in 1930 and 1962(when Serbia was part of Yugoslavia). Their main aim would be to make it past the group stage to start with. But being placed in a group where the 2nd place will be very hard to get a single loss can and their campaign.
4. Costa Rica
Costa Rica turned out to be the surprise package of the World Cup 2014. They defeated Uruguay, Italy and Greece in the last World Cup only to be held by Netherlands in the knockout stages. Costa Rica will be hoping to put up a similar heroic show. Still not many people are convinced about their progress to the next stage. But as we have already witnessed you just can’t write them off.
