5 likely Ronaldo replacements at Real Madrid

The “Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus” move is finally over and the transfer activities are only going to increase with Madrid looking for a replacement for the man who some might even term irreplaceable. However, with a wide variety of young talent available in the transfer market and a name as big as “Real Madrid” looking for it, the things only get more and more exciting. With an enormous funding of €100m from Juventus, money will no longer be an issue for the Spanish Giants.

Let’s look forward to 5 possible candidates who can fill the massive gap that has been left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

1. Neymar

Ever since Neymar left Camp Nou back in the summer of 2017, Real Madrid have always shown their keen interest in the Brazilian. Neymar was an integral part of the Barcelona squad, completing the trio of “MSN”, namely Messi, Suarez and Neymar. However, just like Ronaldo, Neymar left the La Liga Giants and went for a new adventure to Ligue 1. The current PSG forward has always idealised Cristiano Ronaldo and was always in the bucket list of Real Madrid before his move to the arch rivals Barcelona.

The Brazilian has been looking for that limelight, to always be the central figure.  something he could not achieve at Barcelona, but with Ronaldo’s departure, Madrid looks to be just the perfect stage for him. The chance to be at the biggest club in the world and be the central figure. Neymar just looks to be the perfect protagonist of the upcoming story.

2. Kylian Mbappe

The second and maybe the most exciting option will be the inclusion of the teenage phenomenon, Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe had been earlier termed as the new Thierry Henry, but the way he is improving day by day, the French wonderkid can only be expected to better his predecessor. Mbappe is currently an integral part of the French squad, who will be the favourites when they step out on Sunday in the biggest game of the world, the FIFA World Cup final. While the French teenager may not guarantee a 50 goal per season tally like Ronaldo does currently, he can surely lead the Madrid attack for at least a decade if not more and only improve with time. With Gareth Bale at the right and Mbappe at the left, the defenders will be having a nightmare with the pace that both the wingers have got to offer.

3. Eden Hazard

The Chelsea number 10 played a huge role in an arguably successful World Cup campaign for the Belgians. His heroics against the Brazilian side in the Quarter Final alone can make Madrid come hunting for him. Traditionally a Left Winger and occasionally a Secondary Striker, Hazard has the ability to rip apart any back line on a given day, something that Perez will ideally be looking for.

However, the Belgian wizard might offer a maximum of 25-30 goals a season considering his unselfish play. With a striker like Karim Benzema upfront, who is not widely known for his goal scoring prowess and a midfielder like Isco, who loves to run the play just like Hazard does, maybe on paper the Belgian might not turn out to be the most obvious successor of Cristiano Ronaldo.

4. Harry Kane

Harry Kane won the World Cup golden boot award in Russia 2018.

On 8th June, Harry Kane signed a new 6 year contract at Tottenham which made his earnings go up to £200k+bonuses per week, but when Madrid come calling, you usually answer. Just like Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane has a knack of scoring goals on a consistent basis. With proper service from the back, you can easily back Harry Kane to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s numbers at least in terms of goals. Considering the fact the English captain is considerably young and promises 6-8 years at the very top of his game, Madrid might just want to break the bank for him. And why not, when the Spurs striker is widely considered as the best striker in the game currently at just 24 years of age.

5. Robert Lewandowski

About time to leave?

Well, Robert Lewandowski may not look like being the obvious replacement of Cristiano Ronaldo, who will be looking forward to securing Madrid’s future considering he will be turning 30 next month. But considering the fact that Lewandowski is currently one of the best and the most consistent forwards in the game who undoubtedly guarantees goals, you just can’t rule out his inclusion in this list. The Polish striker has been linked with a move away from Bayern to Madrid for quite some while now, thanks to a relatively poor showing from Karim Benzema which have raised questions on his inclusion in the Madrid eleven on a regular basis. On the other hand, numerous reports across the internet have always talked about Lewandowski’s desire to leave Germany and head to the Premier League or the La Liga. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid in an urgent need of a prolific goalscorer, the stage looks perfectly set up for the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

9 glorious years at Madrid and it had to come to an end, sooner or later. Maybe no one could have guessed the fashion in which it has actually ended. A move away to Turin, not many pundits would have predicted the same 15 days earlier.

Having said that, it’s about time Real Madrid get their act together and come up with a huge signing in a bid to maintain their European supremacy.
